At 9:30 a.m. the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community will deliver their Pearl Harbor Memorial Flag that was flown over the USS Arizona Memorial. Following their ceremony, the Memorial Flag will be escorted to the Arizona State Capitol for display at the Arizona Capitol Museum in the Museum's Rotunda.
The program at the USS Arizona memorial in Wesley Bolin plaza will begin at 10:55 a.m. (The time of attack in Hawaii). Rear Admiral Gregory C. Horn Deputy Chief of Chaplains for Reserve Matters and Director of Religious Program, Marine Forces Reserve, will be the keynote speaker.
Secretary of State Ken Bennett will make a few remarks, read the Governor's Proclamation and sing "Arlington" as a tribute. Superintendent of Public Instruction John Huppenthal will be the special guest speaker. The program will be followed by a ground-breaking ceremony for the World War II Memorial.
Secretary Bennett will invite all attendees to the Historic Senate Chamber of the Arizona Capitol Museum for the final part of the program. Navy personnel and Museum volunteers will guide guests to the Museum, where Secretary Bennett and Admiral Horn will update attendees on the progress of the new memorial and have an open discussion with students about volunteering and service.
