We all call our Senators and Representatives to ask their support for, or opposition to, various causes. Let's not forget to say "Thank You", when appropriate. Yesterday Senators Flake and McCain helped defeat the lastest anti-Second Amendment attack. If you have time, call and tell them thanks.

Please, this is not grammar school.   Not every kid deserves student of the month or week.  This is real life, doing the job one is paid to do, in this case sworn to do, should not require a thank you!  Bringing responsible and doing the right thing should not require a pat on the back, or a smilie face.  Thank you?  I don't think so.

You miss the point, James. This isn't about "atta-boys", This is to let them know,"We are watching!", and we care.

When they recieve large numbers of calls, on a particular piece of legislation, that they voted on, they tend to try to vote th same way on the next one. It's called "Re-enforcement". Punishment for bad behavior, reward for good. Punichment doesn't come until the election, way too late to make a difference. People in politics tend to have "very healthy" egos.Instant gratification works well with them. It's pretty simple. but, most importantly, It Works!!

Well you hold to you're beliefs and I'll hold to mine.

I guess you have a point. Why say "thank you" to a waiter, or waitress, who brings your food. They're just doing their job, right?

Dear L.A, Just came across this old post...I would never want to discourage your "thank you" efforts. In the case of McCain and Flake, they are men who say one thing on the outside, but are not convicted on the inside. Watch their actions that speak volumes about their lack of character. And I want to say Thank you to YOU!  WE THE PEOPLE!

I agree, you are not alone!

Hasn't anyone ever heard of the "Carrot and Stick" method. You reward good behavior and punish bad behavior. Using just one, is minimally effective.

McCain is proof of this. He's so used to hearing, only complaints, that the no longer pays any attention. He does whatever he feels like doing, and could care less what we think.

We all use this method, in raising our kids, dealing with co-workers and in everyday dealings with others. Why do, so many, reject it, when dealing with politicians?

Try nit, folks. You'll be surprised how much it will improve the effectiveness of our efforts.
