Arizona Congressional District 8 incumbent of 12 years-6 terms and a 2014 candidate, U.S. House Representative Trent Franks, Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee’s, Subcommittee on the Constitution and Civil Justice, doesn’t appear to know the United States Constitution
very well. Chairman Congressman Trent Franks misidentified the Article the ‘Origination Clause’ is contained within, in his ‘prepared’ opening statement for his April 29, 2014: “HEARING: THE ORIGINAL MEANING OF THE ORGINATION CLAUSE
”. At minute 00:33:14 Franks said(read) “The 1st Clause, of Article 2, Section 7 of the United State Constitution provides, All Bills for raising Revenue shall originate in the House of Representatives; but the Senate may propose or concur with Amendments as on other Bills.”
Not one Committee Member or ‘Expert Witness’ during the course of the HEARING advised Chairman Franks, for the record, that the “ORGINATION CLAUSE” is contained within ‘Article 1, Section 7, Clause 1’. Small mistake or does it exemplify deeper issues with our 535 elected officials in Washington? Article 2 has only 4 Sections and addresses the Executive Branch, at a glance, Article 2 doesn’t apply?
