My wife, a dual U.S./Mexican citizen, went to Guayman Sonora, Mexico (her hometown) this weekend (9/17 - 9/20) and could not exchange U.S. Dollars for Mexican Pesos. She could not exchange at the exchange businesses at the Nogales border town, or anywhere else, not even the banks.

It used to be for many decades that in Mexico the U.S. dollar was warmly welcomed by banks, businesses, and the Mexican people -- the dollar was as good as GOLD! But not anymore...

Is this the run on the dollar that will cause the financial collapse of our country?

Thanks to Keith DePriest for pointing out the possible drug cartel connection.

I just thought that another explanation could be that this is a step being taken by the desperate Mexican government to combat the drug cartels. It would disrupt their money laundering operations...

I think the proposed new proposed round of Quantitative Easing (QE to economists) is likely the issue. Mexico (with mostly internationally owned banks) is likely afraid that the dollar will collapse. QE is were the FED creates an IOU then through some scheme goes out and buys U.S. Treasuries to pay for our unworkable debt.

At some point some international banker will have a moment of clarity to see this is just a biggest ponzi scheme ever. At this point it has been suggested we will enter a hyper-inflation period that will last maybe a month before the dollar is worth less than the cotton it is printed on (literally).
